Seasonal predictions
- Publication
- NiMet 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction, Summary for Policy Makers
- Published
- February 2026
- Coverage
- all 774 Local Government Areas and the Federal Capital Territory
- Fields used
- onset date, cessation date, length of season, annual rainfall
The same Local Government Area tables also appear in the full 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction document from page 85. NiMet issued a Seasonal Climate Prediction Update in August 2026 reporting a strong El Nino, with effects on rainfall cessation and length of season in northern Nigeria. That update is issued at state level and has not been applied to the Local Government Area figures on this site.
Crop calendars
Crop planting and harvest windows are general agronomic guidance for the agro-ecological zone, shifted to the onset date NiMet publishes for each Local Government Area. They are not published by NiMet or by any other institution, and they have not been reviewed by an agronomist. They are a planning aid, not agricultural advice. Onset and cessation dates on this site come from NiMet. The crop windows do not.
Weather
The five day forecast is supplied by OpenWeatherMap and refreshed every three hours.
How we handle data
- Every figure is traced to a named NiMet publication and page.
- No value is invented, interpolated or estimated.
- Records are excluded where NiMet's own published figures do not reconcile with one another.
- Excluded records are shown to the user rather than hidden.
